Years of healthy life lost due to a disability (YLD) uses the prevalence of YLDs which are calculated as the prevalence of each non-fatal condition multiplied by its disability weight. The World Health Organisation have published details of these disability weights in their WHO methods and data sources for global burden of disease estimates 2000-2019.
In the Global Burden of Disease tool, the years of life lost due to a disability is presented for each disability as a percentage of the total years of life lost due to a disability.
YLD is used as a measure to assess the impact of non-fatal conditions on quality of life.
